A Bishnoi family in their house outside Jodhpur city. Bishnoi is a religious sect lives in the Western Desert in Rajasthan, and follows a set of 29 principles set by Guru Jambheshwar (1451 – 1536), who founded the sect in 1485. According to Jambheshwar’s principles, all forms of life must be protected. Ten of their 29 principles are directed towards personal hygiene and maintaining good basic health, seven for healthy social behaviour and four tenets are directed towards the worship to God

عائلة من جماعة البيشنوي تقف أمام منزلها في مدينة جودبور. والبيشنوي جماعة دينية تعيش في الصحراء الغربية الواقعة في منطقة راجستان الهندية، وهي تتبع المبادئ الـتسعة والعشرين التي وضعها الغورو جامبشوار (1451–1536) مؤسس الجماعة عام 1485، ويعرف أتباع الجماعة باسم حراس الصحراء.
ووفقًا لتعاليم جامبشوار فإنّ لجميع الكائنات الحية الحق في الحياة. ومن بين مبادئ البيشنوي، هناك عشرة مبادئ تعني بالنظافة الشخصية، ووجوب الحفاظ على الصحة الجيدة، فيما توجه سبعة مبادئ للسلوك الاجتماعي الصحي، وتُعنى أربعة مبادئ بعبادة الله.
